Oh la la, today, July 14, is Bastille Day and The Original Farmers Market, Los Angeles is celebrating la Fête nationale with our very own taste of France.
The recent opening of two of our newest merchants, Michelina Artisan Boulanger and Oh Waouh Salon, paired with long-standing favorites, Monsieur Marcel Gourmet Market and Bistro and The French Crepe Company, combine to create a French enclave, right here at the heart of Third & Fairfax.
At Monsieur Marcel Gourmet Market guest can delight in an outdoor dining experience reminiscent of a Parisian Bistro. Enjoy traditional cuisine mixed side by side with more modern offerings. Feeling a hankering for escargot or a tempting cheese plate? Mais, ouis, Monsieur Marcel has that.
And from 6 to 9 p.m., the bistro will honor the holiday with traditional melodies performed by live accordionist. Could this be l’amour? If you order the fondue for your honey, you bet it is!
If you’d rather spend time on the West Patio, where you can catch the dreamy melodies of the Jennifer Keith Quintet, who perform at 7 p.m., follow the smell of fresh baked bread over to Michelina Artisan Boulanger.
Before opening this bakery extraordinaire, seasoned Parisian baker Vincent Benoliel honed his skills by selling made-from-scratch breads to retail outlets around town. Now in a permanent location at Farmers Market, Michelina Artisan Boulanger sells delectable pastries and baked goods, a wide range of sandwiches, salads, tartines and so much more. Their macarons are so popular that they’ve sold more than 7,000 since opening on June 24.
You could also celebrate your inner Marie Antoinette at the French Crepe Company. Here the lush La Marie Antoinette crepe comes with your choice of four tasty fillings. Or you could celebrate the holiday with eponymous Le Bastille, a crepe stuffed full of ham or turkey and smothered with Swiss cheese.
If you plan to stick around for the live music on the West Patio, you may want to take some time to emulate the glam look of performer Jennifer Keith, who has been described as “lounge meets pinup girl.”
The professionals at Oh Waouh Salon, owned and operated by Beverly Hills aesthetician and French native, Deborah Pariente, can help you recreate the pinup look. And, oh heck, since it’s Friday, go for broke and get that French manicure that leave you feeling like a queen. The shop provides a variety of professional beauty services, from facials and anti-aging treatments to hair color and blowouts, with or without an appointment.
The Original Farmers Market is open until 9 p.m. on Bastille Day.
